powerful alternative folk rock

Scud Stevens

Scud’s drumming career started by hitting the pots and pans in the kitchen with wooden spoons to the sounds of Glam rock and Status Quo (Well it was the early 70’s) much to my parents annoyance.  I soon found the sounds of the 60’s (Motown and some Northern Soul) whilst raiding a mate’s sisters record collection.  Moving on from pots and pans I acquired a drum kit and really started to annoy people. The need to find another place to make noise became apparent and by a strange quirk of fate, ended up in the British Legion Marching band!  I quick marched through my early teens playing at numerous village fates and parades and this is where I got the taste for performing.  By then I was listening to Punk then new wave.

Other priorities then seemed to take over as I approached late teens in the form of girls, cars, beer & girls, then later marriage, work, children & beer.  Many years later I found the live music scene and watched some awesome bands.

The next drum I played was a Doumbek, which is a Turkish aluminium drum with a crisp, taught sound, to dancing girls (the best gig I have had!).

Over a glass of wine (or two) with my partner and some friends we were chatting about music and somehow we formed Green Fortune.  Mark and Julian were already working on some music and we started practicing in a front room!

I now play a variety of percussion instruments including the Doumbek, Marching Snare, Field Drum, Cajon box and I have just made a stomp box to add another dimension to my noise making.

I still am healthily annoying people and regularly get told “Scud, shut the F*** up”
