Andy started out playing on cardboard tubs in his back-garden as a wee sapling long before drum kits ever existed. Later Andy progressed to practising on his big brothers’ rock kit (when he wasn’t looking!).
Drawn to punk and alternative as a teenager Andy played drums and gigged with notorious post-punk pranksters Happy Content in the mid-80’s, and then hung up his sticks for a decade or two until the temptation of folk (a la Green Fortune style) proved too much to resist.
These days Andy’s musical tastes have matured to a wide scope including world and folk. Andy plays a variety of percussion instruments including tabla (after many years of lessons!), darbuka, cajon box and snare.
Being the engine room in a band is a really important job, Andy likes experimentation, and back in the day was even known to augment his kit with the odd electric fire or two for extra sounds!
